" If you read this line, remember not the hand that wrote it
Remember only the verse, songmaker`s cry the one without tears
For I`ve given this its strength and it has become my only strength.
Comforting home, mother`s lap, chance for immortality
where being wanted became a thrill I never knew
The sweet piano writing down my life"
-Dead Boy's Poem
"It is not the end, not the kingdom come. It is the journey that matters. The distant wanderer, the call of the wild, in me forever and ever and ever, forever. Wanderlust"
-Wanderlust
Wishmaster is the best album by Nightwish, at least I think so. As I was walking up to do the stabels today (yes, I am back at the college), I was listing to this album. And it is just a perfect Nightwish album, it has the sad songs, the angry songs, the uplifting song and the calm songs that truly does Tarja's voice justice. It is my absolute favorite album, ever. Out of the 11 songs on it, it has three of my favorite Nightwish songs (Wishmaster, The Kinslayer and Dead Boy's Poem)
"Romantic scent. Spoiled Lucrece lies warm for you
There's no such priest that can pray me to heaven
When done with me, forget if you think I feel ashamed
A wild thing. Never felt sorry for anything"
-Bare Grace Misery
"A sin for him. Desire within
A burning veil, for the bride too dear for him
A sin for him. Desire within
Fall in love with your deep dark sin"
-She Is My Sin"
This album is full of lyrics I connect to. These lyrics are stories of the person inside my skin, and the difference in Bare Grace Misery and She Is My Sin illustrate the inner conflict. There is a war going on inside my head between the cynical, the evil, the egoistic side of me and the nice, the careing, side. The best way to see this is getting me into talking about love. This is claimed land for the cynical, but the nice is fighting a gurrila war, refusing to give in. It's most common weapon is to make me fall for some guy.
"Wish upon a star. Take a step enter the land
Walk through the air. Take my hand
Wishmaster's will - Join him the quest for dream
A make-believe is all we ever need"
-Fantasmic
The lyrics of songs like Wishmaster, Wanderlust and Fantasmic are great lyrics about travelling into a half real half fantasy world. These songs just make me want to sit under a full moon and dream, dream of worlds I'll never enter. These are the ultimate RPG songs, and I love the close connection with Tolkien's lore. The fact that they are a Finnish band only makes it more beautiful.
"'Time to die, poor mates, You made me what I am!'
'In this world of a million religions everyone prays the same way'
'Your praying is in vain It`ll all be over soon'
'Father help me, save me a place by your side!'
'There is no god Our creed is but for ourselves'
'Not a hero unless you die Our species eat the wounded ones'"
-The Kinslayer
The dialog in The Kinslayer is full of little qoutes I love and use. I also really like the male voice here. This is also one of the more angry songs of the album, I am amazed by the hate adn contempt they have managed to put into the lyrics. But does anyone know what the part about the 15 redeemers and the candels is about? I have tried, but nope. Anyway, this is an album I think everybody should listen through at one point in their life.
"Teach me passion for I fear it`s gone
Show me love, hold the lorn
So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me
I`m sorry
Time will tell (this bitter farewell)
I live no more to shame nor me nor you
And you... I wish I didn`t feel for you anymore...
So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me
I`m sorry"
-Dead Boy's Poem
