Sigh

Music with political statements. Something that I like a lot. And here is a few I really really like.

Boom! - System of a Down (I really recommend watching this one even if you don't like SoaD)
BYOB - System of a Down
Brothers in Arms - Dire Straight (old but so so good)

"Walk on, walk on
What you got, they can't steal it
No they can't even feel it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight...
You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been
A place that has to be believed to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom
Walk on, walk on
What you got they can't deny it
Can't sell it or buy it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight
And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on
Home...hard to know what it is if you never had one
Home...I can't say where it is but I know I'm going home
That's where the heart is"
-Walk On by U2

I don't know why I wanted to start with that song. It doesn't really have much to do with anything. Except to bring home a point I made the other day. Walk on. It is all we can do. And don't be afraid.

A brief note on the new title of this blog. Brief Mortality. The blogger account have the full sub title, LJ does not. Anyway it is 'And the sound makes it's way outta the window Minglin' with the traffic noises outside, you know, an' All of a sudden I'm overcome by a feelin' of brief mortality', it is from the spoken intro to the song Woke up this Morning by A3. The reason why I chose this is because often I am over come by this feeling. I see something beautiful, or grand, or ancient or so larger than life, and I am reminded about how small I am, and how little I really matter in the big picture. And you know what, it is a good feeling.

I bleached my hair, was intending on dying it blue, but now I like this, I might stay blond.

Maria Victoria is now unplayable. She's in jail. And is going to stay there for a while. So yesterday I statted out Ramon. He is going to be fun. He's an Egyptian orc. Tall, and when he isn't having problems with the ground moving (ie. on a boat or drunk) quite graceful. He is young and handsome in that slightly dangerous way. You know someone confident of their abilities, and those abilities include being able to hurt you badly. In the shower I realized why he is in London, must remember to tell Sibs. Ramon is a pirate and I have to figure out the way he speak, I have a feeling he swears by a ton of different gods. Heh, he is going to be fun, mainly because he'll rub Jaq the wrong way so badly..

Good Days

Ok, so screw the vid and listen to the song.. The beauty of Norwegian music. I have been a fan of these guys for ages. Some of the best Norwegian music happens to be rap, both in English and Norwegian. What I like about Paperboys is that they cover many different topics. There are the amazing soul searching songs like 'Find my Way' or 'One Day', and then feel good songs like 'Tomorrow' or 'Wiggle it' and then there are the cocky i'm-the-best songs like 'what you need.' Another thing I like about them is that even though all their lyrics are in English they are very aware and proud of the fact that they are Norwegians, and a lot of the references are made to it. Like that they say 'kronas' in stead of 'dollars'. That might not seem like a lot, but it does matter in this Americanised world.
But yeah, what started this rant was my need to describe how the last few days have been. In one word, perfect. Dressed up for work, felt pretty, didn't get any guests so I spent the days listening to Billibob Baddings, and after work yesterday I walked straight from work to the beach (which is two minutes from where I work) and the water was nice and warm (21 degrees C). It's been totally chill. Today it was rainy but it didn't matter. I got to sew and stuff. In short life is perfect and as my grandmother used to say "I wish everybody in the world had it as nice as I have." And that is true. I honestly wish everyone could have days like this.

Hot Stuff

"Sittin' here, eatin' my heart out waitin'
waitin' for some lover to call
dialed about a thousand numbers lately
almost rang the phone off the wall

Lookin' for some hot stuff baby this evenin'
I need some hot stuff baby tonight
I want some hot stuff baby this evenin'
gotta have some hot stuff
gotta have some lovin' tonight
I need hot stuff
I want some hot stuff
I need hot stuff
Lookin' for a lover who needs another
don't want another night on my own
wanna share my love with a warm blooded lover
wanna bring a wild man back home

Gotta have some hot love baby this evenin'
I need some hot stuff baby tonight
I want some hot stuff baby this evenin'
gotta have some lovin'
got to have a love tonight
I need hot stuff
hot love
lookin' for hot love"
-Hot Stuff by Donna Summer

You know, some good things came out of the seventies. Hot Stuff by Donna Summer is one of these things. This is a song I first hear in a strip show when I was thirteen. Well, it was a mock striptease for a performance competition I was in. For those of you who know it, it was Ungdomens Kulturmønsting(UKM). It starts local, then regional and then national. The year I was thirteen my theater group managed to get to national level. It was really fun and the guys from my region was amazing, some of the more noteworthy ones where H.A.R.M. - a death metal band, Cambodian B-Boyz - two (surprise, surprise) cambodian breaker dancers (and yep, my love for Asian guys started with these two, god they were yummy), and some rather good artists. But yeah, it was a weekend filled with performances and shows, and in one of them there was a couple of stand up comedians who among other things did the striptease. They started in full firemen's outfits and after about four complete outfits ended up in tshirts and jeans. And ever since then I have had this song stuck on my brain, and I will start singing it at the most inapropirate times, like in class, or in a quee to the movies. Or during leir skule (camp school, yes I was a camp instructor, all the students in Flekke were.). Around 8 12-14 year olds learning to do archery, not good. And then suddenly today, while my mom was making food. I think this song has to go on my life soundtrack. Damn. Well. I guess it is right next to Instant Pleasure. I think I really should sit down and make this soundtrack, or maybe someone who knows me should do it. Maybe that could be a fun challenge, a list of 5 (roughly, personally I would need about 30) songs that would be the sound track of me... Anybody up for it? Do it and I'll owe one, ie. you guys get to give me a challenge...

Concerts

So yeah. This fall I want to go see two of my favorite bands, they are both playing in Worcester MA. The bands are Nightwish and Sonata Arctica. Sonata Arctica are playing the 29th of September and Nightwish the 20th of October. Both Saturdays. Tickets are around 25 bucks and it's only a little over an hour from Smith. Anyone else wants to go?
And oh yeah a taste of the bands:
Nightwish just recently changed main vocalist, but here's an example, you want the four top ones.

Summer rain

Yesterday I went for a walk in the rain. I don't mind summer rain, on the other hand there is something very nice about it. I walked to a part of the forest I had never been before and I decided that I am going to check that area out more when it dries up a bit more, there was a nice wall I look forward to climb. Not though enough to require equipment but should be enough of a challange to be fun. Then on the way back I managed to stumble and fall on the gravel road. I don't mind the pain, on the other hand I quite like it, reminds me that I am alive and it was a pretty cool fall. One of those dive and roll falls. But the fact that I fell nagged me a bit, I didn't stumble at something, it was just that I had lost myself in what I was thinking about and that is generally stupid to do. I am practically raised in the forest, I shouldn't do stupid mistakes like that. And then I ended up walking home in the rain, covered in mud and blood, listening to Rammstein, muttering to myself in a mix of English, German and Chinese. And something just felt very symbolic about that. And then I went and washed the blood and the mud of in the river, while I don't mind blood or rain, I mind mud. Hate being covered in it.

Today I started working on my character for the larp I am going to. And I discovered Emigrate, not great but ok. It's growing on me.

News Update

Yeah. A fair bit of news. First and most important, the foal is here. Yep, my horse was expecting a foal and on thursday she gave birth to the most beautiful (ok, I might be slightly biased here) mare in the world. The name is most likly going to be Frigg. I personally like Brynja, but it is too close to Brynjar. And yeah both mother and child are great, they are currently outside eating. The foal's legs are almost as long as it's mother's, so it has to stand like a giraffe to reach the ground. The foal is extremely cute and the entire family is in love with it. The only one who is not happy is Mars, one of the cats, because suddenly he doesn't get all the attention anymore.

Nightwish has a new singer. Go check out www.nightwish.com . I personally quite like her, she is beautiful, even more than Tarja. And while her voice is not as strong (it is hard to beat an opera trained voice after all) it has character and she has not changed the bands sound, which is something I was really afraid of.

I saw Pirates 3 yesterday. There is one reason for seing it, Depp as Jack Sparrow. Ok, I'll give you that Orlando when he gets more piraty is quite a bit of eyecandy, and also the character of Will doesn't get on my nerves as much as he used to. I still dislike whats-her-face greatly, and her character is so bloody boring. And where the fuck did Elizabeth learn to fight like that? She's a English lady for christ shake, while she might now something fancy like fencing, she should not know how to fight the pirate way. And why the fuck was she become the *chough*? I wanna punch her. Anyway, Sparrow is great. Sparrow Senior played by Mr. Richards and Jack have some wonderful lines. And personally I even thought they looked similar. Jack the Monkey gets to play a lot more as well, and is really cute. And the first sequence with Jack Sparrow is just amazingly great. And yeah the opening...Just wow... That is when you realise that being a pirate was not always rum and women. The little kid singing chilled my bones. And I think I have managed not to spoil anything. Yay, go me.

I am learning how to play guitar, after years of believing that I can't, that I simply have no musical talent, I have decided to change that. My brother, who is a fairly good guitar player, is teaching me, though it is mostly just me training on my own. So far, 4 days in (and I didn't practise yesterday), I can do the opening of Nothing Else Matters. Not like a professional, but it's not bad. The reason why is that for my entire life I have been told, mainly by my mother, that I have no musical talent, and somehow now, with listening to R+, something clicked in my brain and I went "Fuck that, I'll show them". I might still not really have a musical talent, but that just means that I have to practise more to get it right. And for this I am willing to do so. I love music after all, and it has been bugging me for as far as I can remember that I can't sing or play anything. I have for fun been practising to play blind, at least the opening on Nothing else matters, because that part is very easy, and now I can instantly hear if I do something wrong. And for someone who (still) believes she is tonedeaf, at least impaired, that is big. Made me happy when I realised. I don't plan on becomming amazing, I don't think I have that in me, but I might get to average or maybe even good, if I practise enough.

R+ and Grades

So, my grades are out. I did not fail Chinese, that is pretty amazing. I was prepared for having to do another language. This means that I'll have to do my German on my own. Well, I can do that. Comp Sci and Econ: both B's, well that is what I get for being cocky... Doesn't matter now. But I am going to have to focus more on rasing my GPA next trem, it is too low. If I don't do this I won't get the grad school I want. So I am taking it easier next trem. Compsci 2, Chem intro, Physics for engineers, Circut theory (egr) and fencing. Only 18 credits. Compared to the 21 I did this term. Mm.. Yeah I'll become the über-nerd next trem, study and game and that is it. Maybe some poi for fun. I had my year of relaxing, now it is time to get back to the studies.

These days I am running on a Rammstein overdose. They are rapidly becomming one of my favorite bands, not like Nightwish, but just a step below. I blame it on Shadowrun. Gritty cyberpunk and InduMetal works very well together. And I have had a sweet stuff from our fave german bad boys fro years. Since I was 13 I think. Holy fuck, I have been liking this band for the last 7 years...Time flies. It was Du Hast that got me into them. I had just started learning German and was loving the fact that I got parts of the lyrics. So yeah, loads and loads of R+. Los is my new fave song, or almost. Wishmaster still wins that title.

Return of the 52,0 and Nightwish consert.

Let's see, where to start? Over the last 5 days a lot have happened, I started travelling on wendsday at around 19.00 and arrvied home yesterday at 21. something. Longest travell I have ever done. But it depends on wether or not everything count as travelling, I spent 2,5 days at my uncle's close to Oslo. On friday I was to the 'Skools out' festival, apprently 4 bands is a festival, and saw Mohamed, Carburntors, Nightwish and Mötley Crüe. The two first are Norwegian bands of (in my veiw) okeey bands with a little to much pyro effects. Nightwish was great (They were the reason I was there), I still haven't really grasped the fact that I have seen them live yet. It was just....WOW. Mötley Crüe was a little bit to 80s for my taste, but cool anyhow.
I am back home now, and that means no more broadband. I am back to a 52.0 modem. I miss everyone back at school. I don't like it here. I rather be back in school with homework than here, I miss them so. I guess it is time to write long e-mails to them...
